Chatbot uses artificial intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to simulate human-like conversations. It’s a computer program that can either provide written or spoken responses. In the past decade, chatbots have evolved from being a program with a set of rigid instructions to an autoregressive language model with over 1 Trillion parameters.

How Does an AI Chatbot Work?

AI chatbots work by using a combination of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) to understand and respond to human language. NLP means understanding and analyzing the conversation between a computer and a human. ML is a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that use historical datasets to improve a program, developers create algorithm without defining the desired outcome.

When a user interacts with an AI chatbot, the chatbot first uses NLP to understand the user’s query. The chatbot then uses ML to generate a response that is relevant to the user’s query. The chatbot’s response may be a simple answer to the user’s question, or it may be a more complex answer that includes additional information or instructions.

AI chatbots are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and they are now being used for a variety of purposes, including customer service, sales, and marketing. AI chatbots can provide 24/7 customer support, answer questions about products and services, and even close sales.

Here are the steps on how an AI chatbot works:

  1. The user sends a message to the chatbot.
  2. The chatbot uses NLP to understand the user’s message.
  3. The chatbot uses ML to generate a response.
  4. The chatbot sends the response back to the user.
  5. The chatbot’s response may be a simple answer to the user’s question, or it may be a more complex answer that includes additional information or instructions. The chatbot’s response will depend on the user’s query and the chatbot’s training data.

AI chatbots are still under development, but they have the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with computers. AI chatbots can make it easier for us to get the information we need, and they can also provide us with personalized support. As AI chatbots continue to evolve, they will become even more useful and powerful.

Best AI Chatbot in 2024

1. ChatGPT by OpenAI

ChatGPT is one of the first few AI technologies that bring the revolution that we are currently experiencing. People were amazed when they used ChatGPT for the first time. It was something like never before. The ChatGPT’s ability to understand human conversations and understanding the context of the conversation is exceptionally well.

Before ChatGPT, netizens only encountered simple chatbots that can only answer pre-defined questions. Most of them are still in use as self-service customer support.

ChatGPT is so popular that it has more than 170 Million users.

ChatGPT uses Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) to improve their language models so that they can provide more accurate, helpful, and less toxic content. The models trained using RLHF technology are called InstructGPT and they’re better than GPT-3.

ChatGPT is available for free, you can start using it from chat.openai.com. The free ChatGPT version only provides information about the events that occurred before 2021 and we believe this is one of the major drawbacks of this AI chatbot.

There is also a paid version called ChatGPT Plus. It works on the latest language model i.e. GPT-4. The subscribers of ChatGPT Plus get early access to the latest updates. For example, ChatGPT Plus provided early access to its API. Using this API, you can achieve ChatGPT automation and automate things like data entry, collaboration, auditing, etc.

2. Google Bard

Bard is Google’s take on OpenAI ChatGPT. It’s been under development for a couple of years now, but Google finally revealed it to the world amidst the rise of AI technologies. Google AI Chatbot, Bard is based on LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) which is a generative AI language model with the capability to engage in complex conversations with humans.

Bard is one of the few AI chatbots that are connected to the internet and capable of drawing information from the resources available on the web.

While unveiling LaMDA, Google pointed out that it is one of the best chatbots that can engage in free-flowing conversations. It means Google Bard understands the meandering characteristics of a conversation and tries to come up with an appropriate response. The chatbot’s ability to understand the nuances of a conversation is not that great, but it’s just a first-generation AI chatbot and will keep getting better and better in the coming times.

Trivia: Did you know? GPT-3 is built on a transformer (A neural network architecture), which Google Research invented and open-sourced it in 2017.

You can access the Google Bard at bard.google.com. It is still in the experimental phase and may provide inaccurate or offensive information at some times.

You need to provide a prompt here and in response, you will get three drafts providing information regarding your prompt but with slight variations.

For example, here we entered a prompt “Give a new color” and in response, we got three drafts.

Google Bard

This is the information that we got in the response:

  • Color Name: Bard Blue
  • Hex Code: #0066CC
  • RGB: (0, 102, 204)
  • CMYK: (100, 0, 0, 25)

Google Bard even provided examples of how we can use this Bard Blue color for different purposes like fashion, home decor, brochures, flyers, etc.

Another additional feature that you get is the ability to edit the prompt that you already have given. With its latest update, Google Bard is now capable of providing images in the responses. Images that you see are fetched from Google Search.
